On Friday, August 8th, at 7:00 PM, the book THE MOUNTAIN FAMILY, a tribute to our friend
Antxon Burcio, will be presented at the Benasque Mountain School.
This book is a tribute to and a tribute to friendship and solidarity in the mountains.
The author, Txusma Pérez Azaceta, along with friends and collaborators, wanted to share their experiences over the past fifty years of mountaineering. Its pages capture, in an entertaining and passionate way, stories of rescues, expeditions, magazines and books, climbing, and anecdotes told in first-person terms with the collaboration of those who knew Antxon on mountains such as Aizkorri, Aralar, the Pyrenees, Moncayo, the Alps, the Atlas, Aconcagua, and the Himalayas.
Our friend Antxon was a key figure in the Basque mountain world over the last 50 years: creator and driving force behind the Federation's Rescue Group, one of the first certified guides and a teacher at the Benasque Mountain School. He spent almost 30 years as technical director of the Basque Mountain Federation and an active member in organizing the Zegama-Aizkorri Marathon from its inception.
We also echo the dreams of Iñaki Ochoa de Olza, which are now being fulfilled through his SOS Himalaya Foundation. With this publication,
we want to do our part by donating the royalties from the sale of the book to support the maintenance of the Makalu Hospital in Nepal.
Rafel Vidaller, Carlos Carracedo, and Txusma Pérez Azaceta, the author of the book, will be present at the presentation.
Before the talk, an audiovisual presentation will be shown featuring the most representative photographs from each chapter of the book.
