Eriste town, a village in ancient times and which nowadays belongs to Sahún municipality, has a Romanic origin and reached all its splendour during the medieval era.
The houses preserve the mountain architecture beauty with wide stone walls, slate roofs and timber carpentry.
The Romanic origin San Félix church was built during the 12th century and was restored in masonry. It has a square floor with a single nave and the apse was replaced by a plain head. It is difficult to recognize the Romanic origin given the restorations and modifications done over the centuries. However, the only remainders of that period are the orientation and the testimony of those who accessed to the chamber located between the vault and the roof which has Lombard arches and remainders of the north wall, the vault and the head decoration.
In one of the portico ashlars there is an inscription of the date 1767 which is probably the date of construction of the current building that replaced the former Romanic one visible in some of the outdoors walls.
However, there is something that makes Eriste unique among other towns in Benasque Valley. Besides being one of the entrances to Posets-Maladeta Nature Park, Eriste has also a lake, the Ésera River’s reservoir built during the 1960s aiming at electricity production.
Eriste Lake (o Linsoles): Lovely setting for those who enjoy peaceful walks. The tour around it can be done in approximately one hour. Along it, visitors will find benches and tables to have a rest or a snack enjoying the aquatic and mountain landscape and the riverbank vegetation (common in these settings) that shelters wagtails, tits, martins and other birds living in aquatic environments.
The lake also has a quay that offers the possibility of riding a canoe or a kayak.
Tramarius Bridge/ Espigantosa waterfall: This three thousand metres waterfall is a must-see visit in Benasque Valley. Despite being car accessible (or public transport in summer), it is a worthy walk through a lovely paving path leaving from Eriste town. This path, the PR-HU 36, goes up next to the right side of Eriste River towards Tramarius Bridge where it crosses to the left edge to finally arrive to Espigantosa waterfall.
Posets: This peak of 3,369 m high is the second highest one in the Pyrenees. However, the impressive and incomparable panoramic views are impossible to outpace given its unique perspective from the central axis.
Pyrenees Glaciers Monuments Interpretative Centre: Located in the ancient school of Eriste, this interpretative centre was built with the aim of learning the value that the Pyrenees glaciers have, as well as to know how important the climate change signs are.
